Flames striker Robin Ngalande jumped off the bench to grab a double as Ajax Cape Town blasted aside minnows Mainstay United 9-1 to make the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Sunday.

At the GWK Stadium, Ajax were 4-0 up at the break, with experienced winger Franklin Cale and Toriq Losper netting twice apiece, before the latter was forced off with a knock in the 35th minute.

Losper’s replacement Ngalande also got in on the act, making it 5-0 in the 68th minute, reported KickOff.com.

Abbubaker Mobara added another with a fine strike in the 73rd minute, with Noah Sadaoui scoring either side of Mainstay’s sole goal in the 79th minute. Ngalande sealed the rout in the 88th minute.

On the same day, Frank Gabadinho Mhango crawled his way back to Bloemfontein Celtic second string side which eased to a comfortable 3-0 win over Roses United to advance to the last 16.

Mhango, who has once again fallen down the pecking order of Celtic strikers, came close to adding the third at the Free State Stadium after Joel Mogorosi had struck twice. Tumelo Tlou had opened the scoring with an own goal.

Elsewhere, Flames Robert Ng’ambi’s Platinum Stars also beat Magic FC 3-0 on Sunday in the same cup to qualify for round of 16.

In Zimbabwe, there was no place for Ishmael Thindwa and George Nyirenda in Caps United starting line-up when the Harare side edged out Dynamos 6-5 on post-match penalties to win Sino-Zimbabwe Cement Cup at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday. Normal play had ended goalless.
